Best Places To Take a Photo at the Lake Tahoe Ski Resorts

We all know that half the fun of a winter vacation is taking photos to make your friends jealous share with your friends and family afterward, showcasing both your amazing skiing/riding skills as well as your vacation planning prowess. Lake Tahoe in the winter offers no shortage of backdrops for your photos, whether it’s the impossibly blue lake, snow covered peaks, stunning vistas or a combination of the three.

To help ensure you don’t have to suffer with sub-par ski vacation photos, we’ve compiled our top spots to snap a selfie, listed in no particular order.

At Alpine Meadows the views from the top of Summit Chair encompass the Granite Chief Wilderness and sister resort Squaw Valley across the way. For intermediate skiers and riders the top of Lakeview Chair overlooks Lake Tahoe (hence the name) and provides access to some terrific blue runs.

For unforgettable photos (and views) at Squaw Valley, head to the top of Headwall Express, where you’ll be rewarded with stunning views of the Sierra Nevada mountains and Lake Tahoe. If panoramic views of Lake Tahoe are your thing, you’ll not want to miss High Camp, which provides just that.

Northstar California’s can’t miss photo location is at the Summit, overlooking East Ridge with views of beautiful Lake Tahoe in the background.

At Heavenly, there are plenty of options offering lake views on both the Nevada and California side. That said the scenic viewpoint off of California Trail is definitely at the top of that list. Note that both Northstar and Heavenly have Epic Mix photographers on site to help you capture the moment.

Kirkwood’s Thimble Peak is your destination for the ultimate scenic shot but it’s one that comes with some effort, as you have to hike to it. Anywhere along the resort’s expansive ridge will allow for a great photo (and won’t always require hiking) but perhaps the most iconic location is at “The Wall” off chair 10.

If you’re at Sierra-at-Tahoe, combine a delicious lunch with a photo session at the 360 Smokehouse BBQ, where you can enjoy views of Lake Tahoe with your pulled pork sandwich. The Top of West Bowl Express is another great location with the dramatic Pyramid Peak and Desolation Wilderness in the background.

Mt. Rose-Ski Tahoe’s photo opps range from lake views off Upper Ramsey’s and the Upper Lakeview runs, as well as some gorgeous panoramas of the Washoe Valley, as seen from most of the runs off the Blazing Zephyr Chair. The nearby Mt. Rose Wilderness provides yet another backdrop, best enjoyed from the top of the Northwest Magnum Express.
